The Challenge

Construct a mixed-use, seven building development incorporating 749 apartments and 10,000 square metres of retail space comprising a total formwork quantity of approx 315,000m2. Calcono’s scope was for the installation & removal of all formwork elements on the project including common basements and commercial levels (Basement 3 to Level 1), as well Buildings A through G with the highest tower maxing out at Level 14.

Due to the size & scale of the project, Calcono setup its own office & storage facility for the duration of the construction. The team structure consisted of a Senior Project Manager who managed the contract conditions including 1st point of communications with DeiCorp, Safety Management & Resource Management. He was supported by five Supervisors who lead several teams throughout the project. Total man power reached 200 workers at peak periods

A mix of systems were used on the project including the KingFlor™ Metal Decking System, which was used for all slab areas in the basements and commercial levels. The system helped to minimise labour and material resources for these particular challenging areas. Beams were formed using our Faresin Alufort system, which was also utilised to form slabs to apartment levels, with conventional formwork to balconies to achieve the appropriate class of finish.

Particularly challenging was the high strutting in the commercial areas, one area in particular from basement through to ground was 1500m2 of 12m high strutting. Certain beams in this area exceeded more than 2.4 x 1.5m deep. We used our own conventional strutting system in lieu of a structurally adequate scaffold system. Particular attention to safety and structural adequacy was required in this zone.

There were also two large onsite detention tanks, one of which was approx. 1,000m2 with a 6m high lid. One full team was allocated to this tank alone and took two to three weeks to complete.


Calcono delivered the project on time with minimal disruption & general defects. We are proud to have played a valuable role in helping to deliver such an iconic project & Sutherland Shire’s largest residential development.
